Art Journal Workshop, 3/3-4/7

PJ’s, Popcorn & Paints!

After great consideration, the Mancos Public Library and I have decided to cancel the in-person Art Journal Workshop at the library on Tuesday evenings. In spite of this seemingly sad news, we have some great news! I am going to continue to teach this workshop remotely from home via an online classroom. This will enable participants to watch and learn creative techniques in the comfort of their own homes, plus, it will open it up to more participants. AND, your kids and teens will benefit from this, too!

I have first-hand experience and knowledge about the benefits of making art and art journals provide the maker. I stumbled upon this simple, yet profound, method of self-help while healing after a life altering auto accident in 2008. I was self-quarantined at home for several years due to a weakened immune-system, acute and chronic PTSD, anxiety, depression and agoraphobia.

People worldwide are experiencing stress and trauma with the COVID-19 pandemic, and this creates or contributes havoc on already weakened immune systems. Art making is a natural way to self-calm and boost our own happy, healing endorphins. I want to share this gift of art making in art journals to help you and your loved ones get through the days and weeks ahead.

Each week, I will post a video tutorial on my Facebook Art page and the Mancos Public Library’s page to guide you in learning a variety of gratifying, mixed-media art techniques and tips. If I am able, I will post more tutorials more often and may even do a few live videos on FB, as well. The library and I will co-host an event page where everything will be easily contained.

If you are not on social media, we will need your email to send links so you can participate, too.  Message me directly or the library with your email address and I will put you in the queue to receive your weekly lessons.

Chances are many of us will be spending more time at home in the coming weeks so let’s make some art together and reboot our endorphins. Suggested supply lists and items many already have on-hand will be listed as well as resources, locally and online.  Watch for an upcoming video introduction to the online workshop. If you have questions—please ask! Lille Diane and Midge Kirk
