Wireless Internet Access Policy
Revised: November 2009
Free wireless Internet access is available at the Mancos Public Library; the library provides this free “hot spot” for users with portable devices capable of receiving wireless signals.
By choosing to use this free wireless service you agree to abide by the Mancos Public Library Wireless Internet Policy. Users of the library’s wireless access must comply with all federal, state and local laws, including the restriction against transmission or receipt of child pornography or harmful materials, fraud or downloading of copyrighted material.
Users are responsible for knowing how to use and configure their wireless device. Due to warranty and liability issues, the library staff cannot assist users in configuring their equipment or troubleshooting. Users should refer to their owner’s manuals or other support services offered by their computer or wireless device manufacturer for assistance in configuring or using their equipment.
Parents and legal guardians should urge minors to follow basic safety guidelines: never give out personal information (name, address, phone number, etc), never arrange via a computer to meet someone, and never respond to messages that are threatening or suggestive.
Network Key (Password): We require the use of a network key to access the wireless Internet. You will be provided this key on your first visit to the library with your notebook/laptop or wireless device. This network key may be changed at anytime with no notice to you. If you cannot access the Internet, please see staff to ensure you have the current network key.
Limitations and Disclaimers
We have tried to make wireless access available throughout our library and the immediate area outside the library, but you may encounter “dead” spots where wireless reception may be limited. If you have trouble accessing the Internet or staying online, please move to a different location within the library.
Colorado state law, C.R.S. 24-90-404(d) states that minors may not access illegal or obscene materials. Due to the fact that minors are regularly in the library computer area, all users are prohibited from accessing such material. The Library’s wireless network is filtered in compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
The Library’s wireless connection provides little security. Information sent to and from your notebook/laptop computer or other wireless device may be captured by anyone else with a wireless device and the appropriate software.
The Mancos Public Library cannot guarantee that a user’s hardware will work with the library’s wireless connection (WPA). The Library is not responsible for any personal information that is compromised, or for any damage caused to your hardware or software due to electrical surges, security issues or consequences caused by viruses or hacking. All wireless users are urged to have up-to-date virus protection on their personal notebook/laptop or other wireless device.
Patrons shall defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the Mancos Public Library, its trustees, employees, and agents against all claims, actions, and judgments based upon or arising out of the patron’s use of Library wireless connections.
