Art to Heart is an art workshop to introduce unique and easy ways to make collectible cards for any occasion.   Mancos resident Nancy McKenney, who has a degree in Art History from Smith College, will teach this class on Saturday, January 30th from 10:15-12:30 at the Mancos Public Library.

We are happy to help you complete your test-taking requirements. Please verify that these conditions are acceptable to the institution giving the test so that the test taking experience will go smoothly.

  • Mancos Public Library (MPL) will proctor either written or online exams.
  • The student will schedule a date and time to take the exam. We are not able to offer walk-in proctoring.
  • It will be the student’s responsibility to arrange for the exam to be delivered to the library and to determine when it has arrived. 
  • Tests can only be proctored during regular library hours.
  • Before taking the exam, the student will be required to present a picture I.D.
  • The test is administered by available staff at the circulation desk. Staff members will not monitor a student continuously during an exam, but may check on the student periodically. Students are on the honor system.
  • Online testing is a special situation.  MPL does not guarantee that testing software may be compatible with library computers, and software installation is not permitted.  Library computers may not be reconfigured from their standard settings to accommodate online tests.
  • If you are taking an online exam, you will be able to use a computer for the length of time stipulated in the exam.
  • Once the test is finished, the MPL staff member will follow instructions provided by the instructor, including signing a proctoring verification form. Staff will not sign a proctoring verification that attests to more than the staff has been able to do.
  • Student is responsible for any charges incurred in returning the test to the institution.
  • MPL will keep paper tests for 30 days from the date of receipt. If the test is not taken by that time, the test will be shredded.

These giant images will be "unveiled" on November 14th beginning at 6pm in the main room of the Library. The International Year of Astronomy 2009 celebrates the 400th anniversary of Galileo turning a telescope to the heavens. A giant 6-foot-by-3-foot image presents a unique view that showcases the Galaxy in near-infrared light observed by Hubble, infrared light observed by Spitzer, and X-ray light observed by Chandra. This combined image was carefully assembled from mosaic photo surveys of the core by each telescope. It provides the most wide-ranging view ever of our Galaxy’s mysterious hub. NASABerntRostadThe Mancos Public Library will also unveil a matched trio of Hubble, Spitzer, and Chandra images of the Milky Way’s center on a second large panel measuring 3 feet by 4 feet. Each image shows the telescope’s different wavelength view of the central region of our Galaxy that illustrates not only the unique science each observatory conducts, but also how far astronomy has come since Galileo. There will also be a "star party" the same evening with telescopes set up (weather permitting) near the Library at the Mancos High School football field for night sky viewing. The library will also have an inflatable planetarium set up in the meeting room for children and adults to go in and further their understanding of the stars and planets. The story begins with Ellie and a tiny monkey named Puck fleeing a spaceship in a stolen Pod Fighter. Sadly, their attempt to escape is foiled by the evil Mal Gorman, who has a plan to co-opt the entire first generation of children born after the Plague and make them into an army for his own nefarious purposes. And Gorman has special plans for kids like Mika and Ellie, whose mutations give them unique abilities. To save his sister, Mika will have to win a contest involving simulator battle games and many deadly challenges, using abilities he never knew he had. The story starts fast and never slows down. While the bad guys are a bit stereotypical, the good guys are interesting and realistic. There's a touch of the supernatural, some interesting philosophical questions, and a cliff-hanger ending that will leave readers hungry for more.
