Outdoor Adventures @the Mancos Public Library

“A No Child Left Inside, Place-based, Experiential Education inspired After-School Program”

This program was developed by a team of educators, biologists, artists, outdoor recreation specialists and librarians who believe kids need an opportunity to explore, build, hike, create and work together in a kid centered community in the outdoors. They will be supervised by an adult yet the activities will be derived by the interests and passions of the kids.

Who: Kids ages 9-12 years. Each child must be able to walk/hike 2 miles over mildly rough terrain in all weather.
When: Fridays from 1:00 to 3:00pm, starting August 31, 2018.
Where: Meet at the Mancos Public Library, 211 West First Street, Mancos.
What: Activities will include exploring, playing, mapping, and hiking around the Mancos River and Cottonwood Park, as well as fort building, art projects, winter science, and researching the history, culture and environment of Mancos and ends with a family camping trip and fun adventure that kids help choose.
How: To learn more about this program, please call the Mancos Public Library at 533-7600 and speak to Jenni Kitchen. You may also like to read David Sobel’s book, Childhood and Nature from which this program was based.
