Postponed – ‘A Grief Brief’ Workshop

Please note that this program has been postponed.

New date and time to be announced!!

The Mancos Public Library is offering a workshop on dealing with grief called “A Grief Brief”. This class will be offered on Tuesday, October 26th, at 6:30 pm at the library located at 211 W. First St.

Many, if not all of us, have experienced the loss of a loved one. Grieving this loss can be overwhelming, scary, and lonely.

“A Grief Brief” will provide an overview of the complex experience of grief and the importance of mourning and doing grief work. We will talk about appropriate expectations you can have for your or your loved one’s grief as well as hopefully dispel the myths many hold about grief and loss. Understanding grief and the grieving process can make a difficult journey – whether yours or that of someone you know – a little bit easier and a lot less scary.

“A Grief Brief” will be facilitated by Susan Engstrom of Solace Counseling. Susan is a psychotherapist with offices in Mancos and in Durango. She is certified as a Grief Counselor and also provides support for the challenges of caregiving, aging, and living with chronic illness.
This program is free and open to everyone. For more information please call the Library at 533-7600.

“Reel” Injun Film Viewing

The Mancos Public Library, the Tribal College Journal, and Rocky Mountain PBS have partnered up to show the film: “Reel Injun: On the Trail of the Hollywood Indian”, a provocative and entertaining look at the Portrayal of Native Americans in Cinema from the silent era to the present time.
Cree filmmaker Neil Diamond takes an entertaining, insightful, and often humorous look at the Hollywood Indian, exploring the portrayal of North American Natives through a century of cinema and examining the ways that the myth of “the Injun” has influenced the world’s understanding—and misunderstanding—of Natives. Narrated by Diamond with infectious enthusiasm and good humor, Reel Injun: On the Trail of the Hollywood Indian is a loving look at cinema through the eyes of the people who appeared in its very first flickering images and have survived to tell their stories their own way.
This film will play at the Mancos Public Library on Thursday, October 21st.  The doors will open at 6:30pm and the hour-long film will begin at 7:00pm.  There will be a panel-led discussion after the movie is over.  All are welcome.  Free.  For more information please call the Mancos Pubic Library at 533-7600.
